Visit from the Children of Chernobyl 2006

Chernobyl children

The Chernobyl Children's Life Line is a registered charity set up to help children suffering from the after effects of the Chernobyl disaster and economic situation. Every year the charity with the support of the Rotary Club of Great Britain arranges for children to visit Great Britain. While they are here they can breath "clean air" and receive essential routine medical care, such as dentistry. It is thought that the children who have been lucky enough to visit Britain for a holiday achieve and extra five years of life. This year Ravelrig was delighted host another visit by the children of Chernobyl. It was evident from the smiles that they enjoyed the horses, pets, barbeque, face painting and play area at Ravelrig.

Visit of students from the Netherlands

On the 19th of May 2006, Ravelrig RDA was please to host the visit of forty two students from the University of N˙megen, The Netherlands. The students are all studying Pedagogy and Educational Sciences and were in Scotland on a study trip. After learning about Ravelrig RDA from the internet they approached the Group to ask if they could visit Ravelrig, as part of their study trip. The students were keen to observe the work that we do.

Unfortunately the weather was not kind to us at all (it was very wet)! After a guided tour of our establishment and introduction to our horses, our visitors enjoyed a demonstration from our volunteers and two of our riders on mounting, dismounting and a typical lesson.

Our visitors said "Thank you very much for the visit, we got a lot of information and despite of the weather we enjoyed the visit!"

Thank you to everyone who helped on the day.

Young Edinburgh Awards 2005

Certificate from the council

On Thursday the 17th of November 2005 Elizabeth Muirhead, Katie Grace, Laura McDougal and Laura Koppel represented Ravelrig RDA at the Young Edinburgh Award ceremony at The Hub, in Edinburgh.

The young helpers of Ravelrig RDA were nominated for the award under the volunteer category to acknowledge all the work and commitment they gave to the group. It was felt by their nominee that their efforts and dedication should be formally acknowledged.

Without our young volunteers the group would not be able to run as efficiently as it does. They take on a variety of roles from fundraising, caring for the ponies, helping during lessons to name but a few. Most importantly, the young helpers of Ravelrig RDA provide friendship and support to their peers with special needs and learning difficulties.

Although they did not win their category they are all winners in their own right.

They were presented with this certificate and it will take pride of place in the club room.

Well done everyone!
